Description
The Kiln Dried oak shelf is finished with a small radius edge then sanded off. We take great pride in hand carving all of our solid oak mantels so each beam has a different shape when finished.
Solid thick oak lengths used are 100% solid kiln dried oak 2.25″ thick planed straight and square then sanded to a fine finish. ( no laminated pieces here ). All our oak is very high quality character grade.
This grade of oak has the occasional small knot and interesting grain pattern, professionally kiln dried oak is the best for interior use and is suitable for use above fireplaces, radiators, in conservatories etc as it is dried to match interior conditions.
Choose from 7 different waxes if you wish to colour the mantel or danish oil to keep it more natural looking, if you wish to finish the mantel yourself we can leave it untreated.
For untreated we recommend that you test the reverse of the beam so you can make sure you get it right before fitting so you don’t colour your wall as well.

How we work
The oak beams are initially rough sawn and we loose a small amount of this oak after machining to give a smoother and more pleasing appearance.
We can operate to fine tolerances, although oak fireplace beams tend to be machined within +/- 10mm.
Should you wish to specify exact dimensions, we would do our best accommodate your request.
There are set stock sizes although this does not mean you are restricted to these sizes. We are able to machine your oak fireplace beam to any size and would try to keep any waste to a minimum.
European Oak’s heartwood is light tan to biscuit coloured, usually straight grained, but irregular or cross-grained material can occur depending on growth conditions.Due to the natural drying process of Air Dried Oak, it will contain surface checking, splits.We aim to place the worst face to the wall and the best 2 sides on show.
3-5 years air dried sustainable oak from FSC and PEFC certified managed forests.
Installation Guide
The shelves are supplied with a set of heavy concealed floating shelf brackets capable of holding up to 40kg and are suitable for installing into solid brick- block. Stud walls would need to be checked for centres of the studs as these brackets are not for direct installation into plasterboard only.
All of our shelves are machined on the reverse to accept the supports and a spot of silicon is all that is required to fix the shelf on once dry fitted.
Each order comes with instructions and the shelves are suitable for all levels of DIY enthusiasts.
